This year, The Centers for Disease Control recommends taking the necessary precautions to help ensure that you and your loved ones stay safe while celebrating Thanksgiving. If you are gathering with friends and family that are outside of your immediate household, the CDC advises you to:
1.) Wear a mask at all times, and only remove it when you are eating.
2.) Stay at least 6 feet apart from people who do not live with you. Gather outdoors or in a well ventilated room so that air flows freely.
3.) If possible, set up smaller tables separated by household so that individuals are eating alongside those they live with in order to reduce the risk of spread.
4.) Wash your hands often and sanitize any surfaces that have been touched by others. Keep hand sanitizer within your pocket so that you can sanitize quickly if soap and water are not immediately available.
5.) Bring your own utensils, plates, and [if possible] food. If serving buffet style, do not have everyone grab the same serving utensils. Instead, have a designated server who is masked and using gloves.
While it may seem challenging to host a dinner party while maintaining such strict protocol, renting a local self storage can help! By keeping larger furniture items off-site you can safely gather indoors while maintaining a distance of 6 feet. You can even clear out your garage so that you can host semi-outdoors (since it is too cold for a fully outdoor meal for most)! Best of all, with prices designed to fit any budget, you can keep seasonal belongings safe and secure until next year, maximizing space within your home for items you use on a more regular basis.
Regardless of how you celebrate, here are 3 fun and safe activities everyone can enjoy:
It can sometimes be a challenge to find fun crafts that are easy enough for the youngest kids and oldest adults to be a part of. However, with some creative ideas using everyday items, you can engage in some family projects that are certain to delight every member of your household, as you decorate and celebrate with your very own creations! Consider setting up craft tables so you and your guests can tackle some crafts together from a safe distance, or set up a crafting date via Zoom
Fun Family Games
Whether you are playing in person, online, via gaming console or Zoom, think of some fun family games that everyone can enjoy, such as charades! Best of all, deciding to play a game can lighten the mood and give you something fun to focus on (in person or virtually). This is especially important to do if you have any family members who tend to be a bit challenging to deal with (let’s face it – there’s at least one in every family)!
Pumpkin picking, leaf piles, fall festivals, corn mazes… Search through your town’s website for a list of various fall-themed events taking place and spend your afternoon making some beautiful memories safely outdoors! You can even paint the pumpkins you bring home together and leave any at the doorstep of loved ones who you could not be with in person.
By renting a self storage unit nearby, and making the most of some DIY crafts, games, and outdoor events, this Thanksgiving is certain to be one to remember, no matter what you decide to do! Wishing you and yours a wonderful and safe holiday season!
